Apart from standard process automation, industries are also investing in “Variable Frequency Drives” for energy saving applications. It is a well-known fact that the presence of loads such as Variable Frequency Drives will generate significant magnitude of
harmonic distortions in the system, and may cause irreversible damage to other loads / equipment such as Capacitors, Transformers, Alternators, Relays, Power Supplies, SMPS etc. installed in the plant. Therefore it becomes extremely critical and necessary to limit harmonic distortions from automation / power saving equipment such as VFD’s, DC Drives etc. Most drive manufacturers propose a Line Choke/ Reactor to be connected in series with the VFD’s to reduce the harmonic current generated by VFD’s. For general purpose motors and using drives especially with long cable runs (typically over100 m), an Output Choke is recommended to maintain the voltage waveform within the specified limits.
The presence of series reactor essentially increases the input systems impedance and hence the harmonic current generated by the VFD’s reduces marginally by a factor of about 5 to 10%.
We supply chokes for all brands of VFDs, ratings up to 150kw, low voltage systems i.e.1000V. These are generally 1, 2, 3 OR 4%. Our Chokes are noiseless and help smoother operation to VFDs.
